I received a phone call the other day from a client that coaches JBO baseball, and he asked me how do I cope with parents that constantly criticize his coaching philosophy. I told him that as long as you coach he will always receive constant criticism from people. I don't care if you are Joe Torre, you will always have people second guess your decisions and disagree with how you handle players on and off the field. Always remember it’s not about parents or fans. The main focus should always be on the kids, and what is best for the team as a whole. Never put one player ahead of the team.
The answer is neither, and let me explain. When I'm working with kids at the facility I want them to focus on their contact point. It does not matter where or what the pitch is. The main focus should be making contact at the hitters strong point. The strong point is where the hitter feels strongest at the point of contact. If this is taking place on a consistent bases the result will be more often a success rather than a failure. So the answer to the question is with a strong contact point average and power will take care of it's self.
Last week we got an email regarding arm strength. We at Northwest Diamond Sports get asked this question quite often.
"Dear Diamond Sports, my child's coach said that he is concern about his arm strength. Do you have any drills or advice to help him with that?"
